A New Web Site for the Holidays
By thehost @ 3:13 PM :: 175 Views :: 0 Comments :: Around the Neighborhood

Well, at some point I had to stop eating turkey and watching games on TV and looking at the snow piled high behind the Yukon on the driveway.

We actually got a new Web site up and running for Clark Appraisal Services Inc. Whether or not you're in the market for an appraisal on your home, land or office building, there are some helpful hints for all property owners you might want to check out. Right now we have a write up on  "Winterizing Your Home." Something it's still not too late to do.

Log on to http://clarkappraisals4.appraiserxsites.com/
WinterizeyourHome Email us and let us know if it was helpful and what other topics you might be interested in knowing about.

Between www.lawtoninfo.com and http://clarkappraisals4.appraiserxsites.com we'll get you the information you need.

A Happy, Safe and Prosperous New Year wish for you and your home!

Charlie

That &#@!% Appraiser Came in Low
By thehost @ 2:27 PM :: 169 Views :: 0 Comments :: Around the Neighborhood

An appraisal report is supposed to be independent of the buyer or the seller. That's not only a guideline, but a regulation that, if not followed, can cost an appraiser and a mortgage lender the ability to conduct business at all.

Both parties may have high hopes for a high value. Then along comes the appraiser, raining on their real estate parade. For the appraisal report, that overused phrase does apply here: "It is what it is."

Typically, a homeowner trying to sell a place tends to figure the value too high because of emotional attachment.

Keep It Green 2009 Essay Contest - Statement from the Judges
By thehost @ 7:41 PM :: 549 Views :: 0 Comments :: Going Green

It has been a pleasure to read the thoughtful essays presented for the Lawtoninfo.com contest. Many of the students presented highly original and creative ideas. Others were able to articulate their ideas with particular strength of literary style. In harmony with the contest guidelines, we did not view this as being primarily an exercise in spelling or grammar. Rather, we looked for those essays that were best able to create a uniquely original vision by balancing elements of creativity and style. We feel that these guidelines produced a wealth of truly original thought and gave us an opportunity to listen openly to the fresh ideas of our developing citizen writers. We hope that Lawtonians who view the essays during the open voting period will make their selections based on the same guidelines

We were truly impressed with the fantastic creativity of our youth and the instructors of all these teens deserve gold stars. In addition to the creative ideas in the finalists' essays, others contained remarkable and original ideas, too. Some were whimsical, others more pragmatic, but all were quite thought-provoking.

Most Unique Ideas:

Elementary:
-more money for books in school and public libraries (a common sentiment!);
-daily running to improve health;
-a dress code banning suits for men (!) but allowing dresses for ladies and pants and t-shirts for teens;
-improved care for abandoned animals (another common concern for Lawton students);
-creating laws mandating jail time for those who hurt the environment proportionate to the "hurt" that they do;
-more sidewalks with safety railings placed between the sidewalks and street traffic;
