Aggies exact revenge on Patriots

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 20) – Not only did the Cameron Aggie men’s basketball team (5-4, 0-0 LSC North) even up the season series with the Dallas Baptist Patriots (8-1, 0-0 Heartland) tonight, but they knocked off an undefeated opponent for the second straight game. CU upset DBU 63-60 in the Aggie Gym this evening to remain undefeated (5-0) at home. The Patriots beat the Aggies 72-63 last weekend in Dallas, Texas.

Aggie food drive; Jan. 8 time change

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 19) – Two canned food items equals free admission for fans attending tomorrow’s Cameron Aggie men’s basketball game at 4:00pm in the Aggie Gym. Cameron University is hosting a food drive benefiting the Salvation Army Food Bank and any fan who brings at least two canned food items will receive free admission to the game. The CU men’s basketball team (4-4, 0-0 LSC North) hosts the Dallas Baptist Patriots (8-0, 0-0 Heartland), and will be looking to knock off a second consecutive undefeated opponent.

CU loses close one to ACU

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 17) – A great night under the boards was not enough for the Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (4-5, 0-0 LSC North) who lost to the Abilene Christian Wildcats (5-3, 0-0 LSC South) 76-65 tonight in the Aggie Gym. CU and ASU battled for most of the game until the ‘Cats pulled away towards the very end. Cameron has now lost two consecutive games for the first time all season.

CU knocks off ASU

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 15) – The final undefeated Lone Star Conference men’s basketball team was thrown their first loss tonight after the Cameron Aggies (4-4, 0-0 LSC) knocked off a very good Angelo State Rams (7-1, 0-0 LSC) team. CU upset heavily favored ASU, 70-67, and led nearly the entire game. The Aggies stayed undefeated at home with the win and are now 4-0 this season in the Aggie Gym.

CU can’t ring Belles for win

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 15) – Cameron’s women’s basketball team (4-4, 0-0 LSC) dropped back to .500 on the season after losing tonight’s home game against a strong Angelo State Rambelles team (6-5, 0-0 LSC). ASU won this evening’s match-up 86-63 in a hard-fought contest. The Aggies have alternated wins and losses this entire season and now have one game remaining this semester.

DALLAS, Texas (December 13) – This afternoon in Dallas, Texas, the Cameron Aggie men’s basketball (3-4, 0-0 LSC) team lost the first game of this season’s two-game series versus the Dallas Baptist Patriots (7-0, 0-0 Heartland). DBU defeated CU 72-63 in what was a very hard-fought contest. The teams conclude their series next Saturday (December 20) at 4:00pm at the Aggie Gym.

Aggies add long-range guard tandem

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 10) – Only one month into the 2008-2009 season, Cameron head men’s basketball coach Wade Alexander has already secured two top prospects for next year. Guards Ali Singletary of Newark, New Jersey, and Nikola Vukadinovic of Belgrade, Serbia, have both been officially added to the 2009-2010 Cameron Aggie roster. Both players are expected to make impressive offensive contributions to the team.

Webb nets Texas standout for ‘09-‘10

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 10) – Cameron head women’s basketball coach Tom Webb proved this week that recruiting is truly a year-round process as he added Texas high school standout Alexis Williams for the 2009-2010 season. Williams is a 5’8” guard from Ronald Reagan High School (San Antonio, Texas) who will be a freshman on next year’s squad. Webb’s signing of Williams is his first for next season.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 9) – Cameron head softball coach Beth Watson announced this week the official signing of three softball standouts to her 2009-2010 squad. While it is not unprecedented to sign a trio of recruits at the same time, it is unique when a coach gets three top players from the same school. In this case Coach Watson signed the top three players from the Choctaw High School Lady Jacket softball team.

When your driving neighborhoods at this time of year, you can't help but notice that the homes and yards of some streets have a lot more cheer going on than others. Chances are, where you see more outdoor decorations, you'll also see more home ownership. That translates to investment, and therefore pride in home and neighborhood. Usually better maintenance when the lights come down, too.

Decorating can be worth you're time and dollars. Don't feel you have to have it lit up like Elmer Thomas Park the first year. Holiday decorations are something you can add to a little bit each year.

Martin Luther King Celebration featuring Nikki Giovanni

Tickets are now on sale for a special Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration co-sponsored by Cameron Campus Ministry and Cameron University. On January 19, 2009, Dr. Nikki Giovanni, one of America’s most widely read poets, will be the featured speaker during the celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Giovanni will present a discussion at 2 p.m. at the Shepler Center Ballroom on CU’s main campus in Lawton, with a reception to follow. The discussion and reception are open to the public at no charge. That evening, Giovanni will present the keynote address at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet held in the CU Fitness Center at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the banquet are $25 for adults and $13.50 for students and are available by calling Cameron Campus Ministry at 580-357-7226.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 8) – After losing their last three games to fall below .500, the Cameron Aggie men’s basketball team (3-3, 0-0 LSC North) righted their ship tonight with an 83-52 crushing of the Rhema Bible College Eagles (5-7, 0-0 ACCA). The Aggies were in control throughout and hope to have begun their second winning streak of the season with this evening’s victory. CU outplayed their opponents in nearly every facet.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 8) – For the second time this season the Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (4-3, 0-0 LSC North) stuck it to the Jets of Newman University (2-6, 0-0 Heartland) with a resounding win. Tonight CU grounded NU, 56-42, and looked impressive throughout. This evening’s game was CU’s home opener and almost finished with the same score as the previous CU-NU match-up: a 56-47 Aggie victory last month.

KINGSVILLE, Texas (December 6) – Tonight in South Texas the Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (3-3, 0-0 LSC) lost a hard-fought road battle against the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas (4-3, 0-0 LSC). TAMUK defeated CU 67-48 in the first LSC crossover match-up for Cameron. The Aggies drop back down to .500 on the season after losing the final game of a season-opening six-game road trip.

NCAA Mascot “J.J.” to appear at CU

Jumper, the official basketball mascot of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), is to appear at the Cameron University women’s (6:00pm) and men’s (8:00pm) basketball double-header next Monday, December 8. J.J. Jumper will perform throughout both games as part of the NCAA’s commitment to promoting youth basketball participation and sportsmanship. J.J. only makes a few select guest appearances each basketball season.

Goodwin signs local Mac standout

LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 3) – Cameron women’s golf coach Rick Goodwin stayed in town to land the second-highest ranked recruit in the Lone Star Conference to his 2009-2010 squad this week. Kylee Johnson, a senior at MacArthur High School, has officially signed on to attend CU next fall and compete for the Aggie women. Johnson is ranked #323 in the Junior Golf Scoreboard’s ranking of the country’s 1,500 best female high school golfers.

CU professor celebrates publication of first book of poems with reading and book signing

Cameron University’s Dr. John Morris, Professor of English, will celebrate the publication of his first book of poetry, “Noise and Stories,” with a reading from the volume on Friday, December 5 at 7 p.m. The reading will be hosted by the Leslie Powell Gallery at 620 SW D Avenue in Lawton. Following the reading, Morris will sign copies of “Noise and Stories,” which will be available for purchase.

Handel's "Messiah"

Cameron University's Cameron/Lawton Civic Chorus will join forces with the Lawton Schubert Music Club and Fort Sill's New Post Chapel for the 66th annual presentation of Handel's “Messiah”. The performance takes place on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at 8 p.m. at the McMahon Auditorium. Doris Lambert, CU adjunct instructor of music and director of choral music at Fort Sill’s New Post Chapel as well as at Lawton Christian School, will conduct the chorus and orchestra for the 22nd consecutive year. Admission is free, although donations are accepted to assist in defraying performance expenses.

BELLINGHAM, Washington (November 29) – With two losses this weekend at the Western Washington University tournament in Bellingham, Washington, the Cameron Aggie men’s basketball team (2-2, 0-0 LSC) dropped to .500 on the season. CU lost to the host Vikings of WWU (5-0, 0-0 GNAC) 79-71 on Friday, and fell to the St. Martin’s University Saints (8-2, 0-0 GNAC) 84-73 this evening. This weekend’s games were Cameron’s first road contests of the season.
