WICHITA FALLS, Texas (January 3) – The Cameron men’s basketball team (9-3) lost to the Mustangs of Midwestern State (8-3) last night by the score of 94-84. The loss was Cameron’s first in the last six games, and prevented them from recording the season sweep of MSU. Cameron defeated the Mustangs in Aggie Gym, 79-77, back on December 9th.

The Aggies fell behind early after shooting only 29.2% from the field in the first half, but rebounded to shoot 48.7% in the second half. Cameron was in the game throughout, cutting their deficit to as little as four points, but could not repeat their performance from early December.

“We made a lot of mental mistakes and our shot selection needs to be worked on,” Head Coach Maury Leitzke said. “Midwestern is a really good team, but we had our opportunities to win and didn’t take advantage. We had too many turnovers.” The Aggies finished with 22 turnovers in the contest.

Midwestern has now won five games in a row, and has beaten premier teams such as Northwest Missouri State, who is currently ranked No. 15 in the nation, this season.

Senior guard Matt Reid once again led the Aggies in scoring with 22 points on 5 for 15 shooting. It is the seventh time this season that Reid has led the team in points. He also added 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. CU recorded an amazing 16 steals in the game, but had trouble converting the turnovers into points.

Senior center Marlon Bernard and junior guard Joseph Bolden tied for the team-high in rebounds with 7. Bernard also contributed 14 points, 1 steal, and a team-high 4 blocks. Bolden finished with 16 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

The first day back from the holiday break wasn’t completely full of disappointing news for the Aggie men’s team, as they were finally able to land Leboise Gladden, a highly-sought after recruit from Los Angeles, California.

Gladden is a 6’5”, 200lb forward who will help the Aggies on the interior. He was actually able to participate in last night’s game, finishing with 7 points and 2 rebounds in 20 minutes of play.

“Leboise played well for his first game, especially with such a limited number practices,” Coach Leitzke said. “We are expecting him to get better and better, but he is a great addition to the team. He is very athletic, fits our system well, and is learning and picking things up very quickly.”

The Aggies travel to Kingsville, Texas this Saturday to take on the Javelinas of Texas A&M – Kingsville (11-2). The game is the second in a women’s/men’s doubleheader and tips off at 4:00pm with the CU women beginning at 2:00pm.
