CU softball ranked for first time

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (April 16) – In what should be no surprise to Aggie softball fans, Cameron’s softballers today set another record. Having already set a number of school and Lone Star Conference records this season, the Aggie women today recorded the first ranking in school history.

“It feels good to be recognized by the NCAA,” Head Coach Richie Nye said. “We have been playing very well lately and have been reaching the goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the season.”

In the NCAA Division II regional rankings released today, Cameron was ranked #10 in the South Central Region. The team currently has an overall record of 32-24, an LSC North Division record of 10-8, and a regional record of 23-23.

Cameron is behind fellow LSC schools Angelo State, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Central Oklahoma, and Midwestern State in the regional rankings, proving that the Lone Star Conference is one of the best softball conferences in the nation.

The Aggies are currently in third place in the LSC North Division with six games left in the regular season. The top four teams in the LSC North and South Divisions advance to the Championship tournament in Durant, Oklahoma (May 1-3).

Cameron’s next action is this Saturday (April 19) when the team travels to Edmond, Oklahoma, for the second half of their series with the Central Oklahoma Bronchos. The teams face off beginning at 1:00pm.

“We need to take care of business in our last few games to lock up that postseason berth,” Coach Nye said.

Next week the Aggies battle the Tigers of East Central University in the final series of the season. CU’s final home game this year is next Saturday (April 26) when the team hosts the Tigers. The double-header between the teams begins at 1:00pm, and will also serve as CU’s annual Senior Day.
