teenager abuses a cat
Alright, I believe it *might* be a miss, but, on the other hand, it might be a 100% hit. The thing is - today I stumbled upon a youtube video of a kid abusing a cat (copy of the aforementioned vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O081xtZhULM . WARNING - it's pretty cruel). On a couple of website, people raged. Lots of people. Someone ID'd the guy as an inhabitant of your town - Kenny Glenn - so I guess you folks should know. Then again, it might be a miss. If it's so, don't mind me and delete the topic. If it's a hit, I believe the kid should get what he deserves.

Re: teenager abuses a cat

Yeah need tougher laws on animal abuse around here. Animals are more important than humans. Why are humans so sillying dumb? Did you hear that a small percentage of the bailout would solve world hunger? Americans should be all be shot. And animal abusers should have public hangings. silly you and your children Lawton! silly them all!!!

To All Who Have Contacted Us:

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I personally checked and could not find that last name listed in our phone directory. We are still looking in directories of nearby towns. The information about the cat being hurt will be handed over to the authorities on Monday. Perhaps their resources will be more helpful in finding this individual.

Most of our residents would never condone such cruelty. Our local media has exposed incidents of animal mistreatment. Many of our citizens adopted animals abandoned in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina (a two-day drive, locating the rescued animals, and bringing them back at their own expense). We have a chapter of the Humane Society here, as well as local organizations and many individuals who adopt and care for homeless and injured animals. There is a federal wildlife refuge adjoining Lawton, the Wichita Mountains, and the rangers assist with injured wildlife.  There also is a group of private citizens who volunteer to help at the wildlife refuge.

My wife and I live near the outskirts of town with lots of open land close by. We have had many injured animals make their way to our door step. Our veterinarian has donated much time and medicine over the years to help these animals. And we have found homes for countless needy dogs and cats over the years with people who were willing to take them in.

Lawton's population is near 100,000. The smaller towns within a half-hour drive add at least another 100,000. With that many people you are always going to have some bad apples. But an individual that hurts innocent animals is not anything that is tolerated here. There are many more who are kind and generous to animals, who never get attention on YouTube or anywhere else.

It takes people such as yourself to help stop such nonsense in the world wherever it may exist. Keep up the good work, and thanks again for making this a better place for all of our residents, the two-leggeds and the the four-leggeds.

To Those Who Have Been Concerned:

Good news! I thought it would be the next business day before action would be taken about the youths who taped themselves abusing a cat and put it on YouTube. But, in less than 24 hours this weekend they have been caught. It was brought to the attention of our sheriff and the local media and the culprits were tracked down.

The cat was removed from the home and is under the care of a local veterinarian. It looks like it is going to be OK. The offending youths remain in the custody of their parents while the District Attorney decides what -- if any -- action will be taken against them.

If you feel letting these juveniles and their parents off lightly or with possibly with no repercussions at all is not satisfactory, then let your voices be heard. Contact:

Robert Schulte
Comanche County District Attorney
Comanche County Courthouse

Lawton, Oklahoma 73501

Also if you want to thank the Sheriff for his quick and thorough action, contact:

Thank you for your vigilance and for caring about the innocent little animals in our town.

Re: teenager abuses a cat
Thx for the info, I already seen that on some news site when googling around. I suppose you're safe to assume that your town won't be seen as a cradle for animal abusers - it's just those kids that're going to be badly remembered by a couple Ks of people. Glad to hear the guys are being taken care of and that the other 99.9999% of the town seems to be rather fond of taking good care of animals. BTW - cheers for the updates.
