OK. What everybody is talking about is the new general manager of the city's basketball team, the Lawton Fort Sill Cavalry -- Stacy Johnson-Klein. If you read the sports pages, you're up on the PR of it all. But, even ladies who are non-sports followers have taken notice, and recall SJK's first go 'round in our fair city, when she was the coach of the women round-ballers at Cameron University, and a general manager of sorts.

Now I'm not one to chatter on the mound with the Junior League, but could SJK have had a press conference wearing a bigger diamond ring, or arrived in a longer white stretch limo, or found an attorney to herald her arrival with more celebrity than Gloria Allred, or had anymore bleach in her hair?!

This is unofficial, but the Seattle Times has a map showing the rumored closings. seattletimes.nwsource.com/flatpages/businesstechnology/ locationsofstarbucksstoresclosingacrossthenation.html

It shows the Sheridan Road location as closing as well as the Altus location. These make sense, as Starbucks has said closures would be of stores opened 2006 and after. Longtime KSWO chief meteorologist Pat Walker is blowing out of town, making an interesting move to Independent News Network, a shop in Davenport,Iowa that creates news content for TV stations in small cities that can't afford a full newsroom. Replacing him will be David Baxley, an Alabamian who leaves WAKA in Montgomery, a larger market, to come to Lawton. I wonder if he's related to Bill...

OK, I have a soft spot for The Humane Society of the United States. What can I say? Obviously I have a stake in this. Some of the residents around Elmer Thomas Park don't particularly care for us furry neighbors. But, some folks, biologists, a few professors, and those who are in to more "natural" yards, welcome critters.

Here's an interesting piece from Rodi Rosensweig, a backyard wildlife expert from The Humane Society (with some of my own color commentary. - BB)

So Starbucks announced that it is closing 600 underperforming stores that opened in the last two years. That no doubt sent shockwaves up my spine. You don't know how serious some of us here in the catacombs are about our caffeine. That said, on the positive side for Lawton, most of the stores to close will be located near other Starbucks according to a corporate statement. Our new Starbucks location is indeed not very far from the Cache Road location. On the other hand, urbanites know that in big-city...

Hello, out there!  I'm Bonnie Barker.  You are all probably acquainted with my nephew, Sheridan, otherwise known as the "smartest prairie dog in town".

Being somewhat envious of Sheridan's success, I decided that I should host a blog of my own.  I am interested in all the news that's fit to print and some that isn't. If you don't have anything nice to say, please come down to the prairie dog mounds and let's dish!
