It seems like I've been seeing a lot of Fidelity Cable's  5 for $85 deal (phone service, long distance, calling features, Internet, and ... um ... oh yeah, extended basic cable). In their defense, I must say the Fidelity folks are showing a lot more polish than the old Lawton Cablevision ownership, who, in all honesty, just couldn't be bothered. OK, I'll admit it. I forgot that sales tax issues don't need 60 percent to pass. The LPS half-cent issue hit 56 percent. The big news was that the bond issue didn't come close to the 60 percent threshold. It didn't even his 50 percent. What that means is that there is very little likelihood that any school bond issue will pass in the foreseeable future. Did anyone read Barry Beauchamp's Q&A in the Constitution today? Did Barry Beauchamp? It's was entirely too long and entirely too much, a little bit like going for two tax increases on one ballot. They were turned down last year on one tax increase, so this year they ask for two? Do they seriously think they will impress people by doubling their request? And is there any chance one will pass and not the other? Will someone reject the idea of a property tax increase but embrace a half-cent sales tax...

It is rare that a movie gets my attention. Most Hollywood offerings these days rotate among the juvenile, the repetitious and the perverse. But the previews for "The Invention of Lying" caught my attention. The premise seemed cute: A world where one guy figures out how to lie, while everyone else cannot. So that sounds like the perfect setup for two hours of mindless fun. It opened in wide release last Friday with quite a bit of commercial promotion.
