In a state that voted 2 to 1 for McCain, you would think that there would be quite a bit of gnashing of teeth at the nationwide results Tuesday. But there are good reasons for Oklahoma Republicans (which, statistics tell us, most of you dear readers are) to be happy.
1. Taking over the state Senate.
For the first time since statehood, the entire legislature is in GOP hands.
2. Nationally, Democrats didn't get the Congressional landslide they hoped for.
It looks like no more than Senate seats will be in Dem hands. They couldn't even beat a convicted felon in Alaska. The GOP will still have the threat of filibuster, though we predict they won't use it for anything short of a Mario Cuomo Supreme Court nomination.
3. Gay marriage was defeated, and defeated, and defeated.
Even in California, the land of the lunatic left, they couldn't stomach the court-imposed mandate for gay marriage. If it's not palatable there, can it be anywhere?
4. If 2008 can't bring out the Dems in Oklahoma, nothing can.
Judging from tattoo and piercing ratio, we saw more Democrats in line to vote than at any time in recent memory. And still the Democrats couldn't get any traction in Oklahoma. And speaking of which.
5. 2008 is high-water mark.
A number of national legislative seats that went Democrat in this tsunami will wash right back red in 2010, when the Democrats won't have an Obama on the ballot to make them put down their Gameboys and vote.
