Glasgow leads CU to big win

LAWTON, Oklahoma (November 15) – For the moment, Cameron head men’s basketball coach Wade Alexander is the winningest coach in school history. Coach Alexander and the Aggie men (1-0, 0-0 LSC North) stuck it to the Saints of Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (0-5, 0-0 ACCA) tonight in the first game of Coach Alexander’s head coaching career. CU defeated their opponents 73-50 and was in control throughout the game.

“It was really nice to get the win tonight,” Coach Alexander said. “It takes a little pressure off of you when you can get the first win out of the way. Now the pressure is on us to get our second win. We hope to keep it going from here and we’ll work every day to get better.”

The Aggies got off to a quick start and held a double-digit lead for 31 of the 40 minutes in tonight’s game. Cameron put the game completely out of reach as they went up by 30 points at halftime. The Saints outscored the Aggies 28-21 in the second half, but Cameron stayed in control.

“I think we played pretty well in the first half. Our intensity was where it needed to be,” Coach Alexander said. “I’m definitely pleased with how tonight went. No matter how you get a win its’ a good win.”

CU shot a solid 40.8% from the floor as a team, including 27.8% from three-point range. The Aggies absolutely crushed the Saints under the boards as they won the rebounding category, 57-18. CU also only committed 7 personal fouls.

Junior guard Kallan Glasgow had an unbelievable game and was a rebound shy of tying a school record. Glasgow led both teams with 25 rebounds and 23 points on 10-15 shooting. He also recorded an assist and a steal in his 31 minutes of play. Tonight’s double-double is Glasgow’s second in a row including last night’s exhibition game against the University of North Texas.

“Kallan did what he’s capable of doing tonight,” Coach Alexander said. “He had some big numbers, but that’s what he can do. He doesn’t have great size but he chases the ball hard on the glass.”

The Cameron University men’s basketball school record for rebounds in a game is 26, held by Ray Franklin. Franklin set the record in 1979 against the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Senior guard Dave Smith and junior forward Jamaar Burke both recorded double-digit scoring numbers with 15 and 10, respectively. Smith went 6-13 from the field with 3 steals and 3 assists, while Burke went 4-6 with 2 steals and an assist. Both players also recorded 6 rebounds each.

The Aggie men’s basketball team stays at home this week to host the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies on Wednesday, November 19. The game tips off at 7:00pm in the Aggie Gym.
