Aggie women come up short at LSC tournament

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (April 23) – The #45 Cameron women’s tennis team saw its season end today as the Aggies fell to the Bronchos of the University of Central Oklahoma. CU faced off against UCO in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament and was defeated 6-2.

The Aggies started the match on a high note taking the #1 match in doubles when the CU pair of Irene George and Sophia Rich defeated the UCO team of Audrey Donovan and Lacey Caldwell 8-6.

Unfortunately, the Aggies would drop the #2 and #3 doubles sets to fall behind 1-2 going into singles play.

George carried the momentum of her doubles win into the #1 singles match where she again faced Audrey Donovan. George bested Donovan 6-1, 6-3 in the only singles victory for the Black and Gold.

George is one of four seniors on the team that likely played their last match for Cameron today. Rich, Heather Doslich and Sara Flores are also seniors in their final season at CU.

In the #2 singles match Rich fell to OCU’s Julia Shviadok 3-6, 3-6 while Flores and Doslich were also defeated by their Broncho counterparts 0-6, 4-6 and 3-6, 1-6, respectively.

The Aggies end their season with an overall record of 13-12 and a sixth-place finish in the Lone Star Conference regular season standings.
