LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 14) – If you weren’t one of the hundreds of fans in Aggie Gym tonight, you missed one incredible basketball game. After losing for 39:44 of tonight’s 40-minute contest, the Cameron Aggies (8-1) stormed back against the West Texas A&M Buffaloes (6-4) in the waning seconds to win a thriller. CU came away with the 50-47 victory leaving the WT players and fans absolutely stunned.

“That was probably the best Lone Star Conference game I’ve ever been to. To beat a team like West Texas is something special because they are a great program,” Head Coach Wade Alexander said. “If you weren’t here tonight you missed a great game.”

West Texas took the lead just 44 seconds in and found themselves up 13-2 with just minutes left in the first half. Both teams struggled to put points on the board and CU went into halftime down 19-12.

“In the first half they locked us down and played us physical,” Coach Alexander said. “We were training for a physical LSC game because we hadn’t played anybody like WT yet this season. We talked about that at halftime and how we needed to toughen up and get the job done”

The Buffaloes built a 13-point lead late in the second half, but the Aggies forced key turnovers and went on a huge scoring run. Cameron outscored West Texas 6-0 in the final minute to seal the come-from-behind win.

With 43 seconds to go and down 47-44, sophomore guard Jacquez Williams found junior forward Nathan Murray for a monstrous alley-oop dunk. The crowd erupted as the Black and Gold pulled within one.

“At the end of the game the crowd was so loud, you couldn’t hear anything,” Coach Alexander said. “If it wasn’t for the crowd we probably would have lost that game. Hopefully the crowd will build and continue to get bigger and bigger.”

On WT’s next possession, Kallan Glasgow stole the ball and took it all the way to the rack to give CU the 48-47 advantage, their first lead of the game.

The next possession wasn’t any kinder to the Buffs as WT’s LaDarius Hall committed an offensive charging foul putting CU’s Williams to the foul line. Williams hit both and put the nail in the coffin on the Aggies’ 50-47 unbelievable win.

“We have got to build off this and get better every day,” Coach Alexander said. “The guys coming off the bench were huge because sometimes it takes more than our starting five. If it weren’t for our bench we would’ve lost this game. It was a great all-around team performance.”

Cameron renews the Red River Rumble next Saturday (December 19) against the undefeated Mustangs of Midwestern State University. CU and MSU tip off at 4:00pm in Wichita Falls, Texas, next weekend.
