(Lawton, OK) The City of Lawton and the Lawton Arts & Humanities Council are pleased to announce that Navajo-Hopi artist, Myron Beeson of Apache, OK has been selected as winner of the “One to Six” Art Purchase Award.
His intricately carved and painted “Eagle Feather” was selected from among seventeen entries. Besides his fine art painting and carvings of Katsina dolls, doors, and ostrich eggs, Myron is known for his musicianship with traditional flute.
Myron’s “Eagle Feathers” will be presented to the six Lawton Cultural award winners during the Arts for All’s Kick-Off Luncheon set for 12 noon Friday, February 5 at the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center.
Guest speaker for the event will be State Representative Don Armes. For reservations, call the chamber at 355-3541, deadline is February 2.
BIO:
Myron is from the Second Mesa, Arizona on the Hopi Reservation. His Hopi name, which his grandmother gave him at birth is, Hon-yo-si (Bear Hide). His Hopi clan is the Sun-forehead from the village of Sipoulivi. Myron’s art has been on exhibit. As a recording artist, he has performed flute concerts for many festivals and private events. Myron was featured last year on an episode of OklaVision TV.
